Dear perplexed,

Is 36°51'9"S / 174°42'59"E exact enough for your needs?

Regards,
Scriptor

hi scriptor
I really need an 8 figure latitude and 8 figure longitude.
I'm assembling a chrysalisbox (as in alltimefoundation.net) so ideally
i'd like the point where the road meets the coast to within a metre or
so. is that possible?

This link here gives pretty precise cordinates:

Lat: 36:51:07S (-36.8519) Lon: 174:42:55E (174.7152)
www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?lat=-36.8519&lon=174.7152&scale=5000&icon=x

as the location of clicking on the map exactly at the end of Garnet Road.

That certainly puts you within a few meters, at least. But more
precision would probably require a local town surveryors map, or some
similar document. Have you checked with your local goverment?

the link worked well but i couldnt see any co-ordinates on that map.
Is there a way of seeing lat & long on it? or are your figures from
another source?

oops! just had another look and scrolled down below map.
yeah that looks good.
Theres a discrepancy tho between the map giving 36:51:07S and Scriptor
giving 36°51'9"S
Probably to do with the scale of the sources?

Hello perplexed.

Neither scriptor-ga nor I have posted a formal answer yet, so your
question remains open for the time being.

I know you were looking for a set of coordinates even more precise
than the ones posted. As I said, though, it seems unlikely to me that
such a fine-grained resource will be available on the internet, as it
would only come from a local surveyor's map.

Perhaps someone else will come along and prove me wrong, so there's
certainly no harm in leaving the question open a while longer.

If and when you feel that you've received a high-quality answer to
your question, let us know, so we can post a formal answer and close
out the question. I'm hesitant to post an answer at this point, since
you didn't quite get the detail you're seeking.

Cheers,

paf
