Hi jeremiah001-ga,

Perhaps it might help the researches to track down the information you
need if you could give some idea as to the purpose of this list. Also,
what do you mean by "housing department"? Please elaborate. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jeremiah,

You can find lists of colleges and universities on the following web
sites:

list of 535 regionally accredited schools (better-known schools)

large list of colleges and universities sorted by type of school

list of up to 10,000 colleges and universities, sorted alphabetically

The page from U Texas gives a list of "regionally accredited" 4-year
institutions and provides links to a page of 2-year institutions. It's
the smallest list of the 3, but (in my opinion) many of these schools
have bigger reputations than most of those on the other lists. Most of
these are likely to have a specific office dedicated to housing.

The list from universities.com is certainly one of the most complete
that I've seen (and it seems to include all or most of those on the U
Texas list), but many of the schools listed (i.e. automotive technical
schools) likely do not have on-campus housing or even an office
devoted to housing. There are also international schools listed that
are outside the USA.

The a2zcolleges.com site breaks down its lists of schools by type of
school (i.e. 4-year undergraduate, law school, etc.), so is useful if
you're targeting a specific type of place. In general, 4-year
universities are more likely to have a housing office than a culinary
school.

The directories above also link to the main web page of most of the
listed schools.

Now, for the second part of your question -- how to get housing
information.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a single list that
provides easy access to all housing department contact information for
all schools. This doesn't mean that the information is unavailable, it
simply means that I haven't been able to find a collected version.
What follows is my recommendations for how you can use the information
I've supplied above to get the information on housing offices.

First, the a2zcolleges web site has a page devoted to contact
information for many schools, sorted by phone number area code. I've
also included a link to the web page for area code 405 (Oklahoma City)
as an example.

Click-able map of US with links to college/university phone numbers

List of Oklahoma City colleges and phone numbers

If you call each of these numbers, you can do one of the following:

1) Ask to be transferred to the housing office.
2) Ask for the direct number of the housing office.

I would guess that most US institutions have phone systems which would
allow you to be instantly transferred to the office you want, so
calling the main number for the university and asking for a transfer
is probably just as good as dialing the number directly.

The other method for finding these offices is to browse each web site
for the schools you have an interest in and look at their online
directory. Most likely, housing would be listed under "Dormitories,"
"Housing," "Residence Halls," or "Real Estate." While time consuming,
this is the most exact method for getting the direct line to the
housing offices.

I hope that this has helped you and please ask for clarification if
you need it.

Good luck!
