My son is 10 and my daughter is 11. Each of them has profitable goals of starting a small business. I have tried every search engine and bookstore to find a book of business start up basics for kids by kids. I thought about starting out with Whiz Teens in Business, but I am picky in the sense that I don't want anything that cramps their creativity. |

Howdy, puzzlepilot! I've found info on several books that your budding entrepreneurs may find useful. Two of these are highly recommended by a friend's 12-year-old son. This seventh grader is pulling in a nice income with his home-based Web design business (and making stellar grades in school, too). He says that he's thinking of setting up a website specifically geared toward kids and teens who are interested in starting their own businesses. And if he does it, I bet he'll succeed. Here's the list that I have gathered. The first two books are the ones recommended by my friend's son, the junior tycoon. I found the others by noodling around on Amazon (noodling is one of my strong points). The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0812933060 What Color Is Your Piggy Bank?: Entrepreneurial Ideas for Self-Starting Kids http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1894222822 The Kids' Guide To Business http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0973305819 The Totally Awesome Business Book for Kids http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1557044945 CashCow Kids: The Guide to Financial Freedom At Any Age http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0972855521 Better Than a Lemonade Stand: Small Business Ideas for Kids http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0941831752 The Kids' Business Book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0822598213 Kids Can Make Money Too!: How Young People Can Succeed Financially http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0944104002 A Teen's Guide to Business: The Secrets to a Successful Enterprise http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0942361504 Fast Cash for Kids (Currently out of print) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1564141543 I hope this helps. As the former owner/operator of a very successful lemonade stand, I commend your children for having an interest in business. May they be the next Meg Whitman and Steve Jobs! If anything is unclear or incomplete, or if a link doesn't work for you, please request clarification; I'll be glad to offer further assistance before you rate my answer. Best regards, pinkfreud | |

rated this answer:![]() Thanks so much! These are exactly the kinds of books that I was looking for, and I really appreciate the effort that you put into organizing the response so clearly. I'm just curious, how long did it take you to find all the books and write the answer? |
