Question ID: 586551
I have a 1999 Toyota Sienna van. There was heavy snow on the
windshield and I turned the front wipers on, they slowed to a stop and
now won't run at all, even if I clear the snow off, and the rear wiper
does not work either.

I suspect a fuse or a relay has blown. Where *exactly* in the fuse box
under the hood is the fuse for the wipers on this car?

Here's what I found:

On a 1999 Toyota Sienna where is the access to the main fuse panel?
http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/On_a_1999_Toyota_Sienna_where_is_the_access_to_the_main_fuse_panel

Answer: under stering wheel there is an ash tray holder. remove it and
the fuse box is right behind it. Also, there is a fuse box in the
engine compartment driver side top.

Another source adds this: ..."located behind the coil holder, Just pop
out the holder and you will see it..."

Unfortunately, there is no answer posted there, but it does state the
owners manual says it's a 20amp fuse..

One more find, same problem! :

..."Wiper fuse will probably be on the inside panel, yellow 20A "wiper" fuse..."

One more possible location:

It is located behind the little coin tray/holder below and left of the
steering wheel.....You should have some spares in the other fuse box
near the battery under the hood.

Also, I found this recall, in case you're not aware of it:

I found one more link, it's YOUR question, at another site!

Theres a 20 amp wiper fuse should be in fuse box. If you cant find it
call Toyota and ask.

The motors also appear to have some kind of fuse/breaker it looks like
1/2 moon symbol. It is internal in the motors, if it burns out the
motor loses connection to ground. You may have to remove a motor to
get to it or look at it real good for a breaker. I doubt theres a
breaker though, they always want you to buy a new part. If you can
pull the motor off at least you have a shot at fixing the fuse
yourself. Focus on the front wipers as the rear are useless anyway.
Also call Toyota and ask if theres a breaker on the motor as well. For
the most part they tell you stuff.

I would def change the regular fuse first though. Even if it looks good.

Im going to be bold and venture to assume you know where the box is
already. If you suspect a fuse blew and now the wipers don't work -
pull out fuses until you find the one that's blown. you'll know it's
blown because the metal filiment in the fuse will probably be shot /
burnt / split. You can also take a multimeter and test each fuse to
make sure voltage can run through them. The one that doesn't work is
the one that goes to your wipers! Replace it with a fuse of equal or
lesser wattage, and try your wipers. Good luck!
