A friend of mine and opera aficionado once explained to me that often
at the end of an opera performance an opera singer will expend all of
his remaining singing ability for the night in one crescendo. When
that's done, the singer literally cannot go on, they have used up any
ability to sing well that night. Is this a real concept in opera and
is there an official term used for it?
