Cursor freezes for 10 seconds to several minutes after procesor spikes
to 98% with no open programs. Athlon 3.5, 2G RAM, 10K 36G HD, W2KSP4,
10K 36GB scratch disk, 7 ATA and SATA 250 GB internal data drives with
a gazillion photo files, 3 LAN connections to other computers, NO
INTERNET CONNECTION on this computer but it is networked to a computer
that is connected to the internet. That networked computer has Panda
Antivirus that has stopped everything and anything for 3 years so its
not a bug, it looks like a hardware problem. I looked at the
processros perfromance in task manager and it spikes to 98% before the
cursor freezes for 10 seconds to several minutes even though no
programs are open. I just finished doing the 5 level disk check on
all hard drives, took 3 days, just to make sure everything is working
properly and it is. Same thing with defrag. It looks like a hardare
problem as I am familiar with most software problems but it is hard to
say. This system runs fast and has run without problems for at least
6 months. Is this a memeory leak, whatever that is? Is the processor
going bad? Is the hard drive getting a problem? I have never seen
this before. Any and all suggestions and ideas are appreciated.

Thanks, Roger

No quite sure your power supply is enuff for so many drives.
Try with 1 drive (largest) without any raid and 1 cdrom.
I have theory that insufficient power from power supply cause drive to
got to sleep, each time when it wakes, it tries to sync with parity or
scratch therefore causing a spike.
Minimise your disk first
reinstall OS next (try Windows 2003 or XP) it's better
Last change Motherboard, something is wrong with the SATA or ATA IDE

It was the chipset driver. Reinstalled latest Invidia drivers (not
graphics but chipset) and it went away. The Invidia IDE driver should
NOT be installed. I installed it with the rest of the drivers and it
screwed up even more untill I uninstalled the IDE drivers.
