Three years ago I started a humanitarian effort to assist orphans that
have "aged-out" - who are never adopted and must leave the orphanage
in Belarus. We assist about 25 kids at any one time, in getting a
place to stay, clothes, food, additional schooling or an occupation -
we also provide Bible study lessons on a weekly basis for those
interested. This program is called "Project Eugene" and takes place in
the city of Gomel. The program has been going on for 3 years now at a
cost of about $15,000 (USD) per year. I want to begin a Belarus
business oppotunity (with all proceeds going to funding this program).
Our current thought is to export peanut butter from the USA. They have
none in Belarus. A ton, prepacked in 1,776 18oz jars jars would cost me
$3600. My single shipping quote is over $4000 bring the total to $7,600 or
$4.28 per jar. The total weight is 2,302 lbs with 151 cases. (I know
nothing almost nothing about exporting. My Belarus friends ar taking
care of the importing regulations.)
What are the best shipping options?
Why would they not already have peanut butter in Belarus?
What are other thoughts /business considerations / do you have in
making the objective a reality (ie starting a business within Belarus
that these kids can take part in - and having it become self-funding -
with projected net profits >$1000 per month)
I have several excellent Belarus contacts/friends. A five star answer
will have more affordable shipping options and show thoughtfullness in
this pursuit.
