We own a 2001 Chevy Blazer LT. This vehicle was parked for the last
three months and yesterday I started to use it again. This is what
happened and question follows...I started the car and then I realized
I needed to do something before I moved the car. I then shut the car
off, took the key out, got out of the car, closed the door and walked
away. While walking away, I heard some loud music coming from the
car?!? I got back in the car, tried to turn the radio off with the
radio switch but it wouldn't shut off, so I turned the car back on and
off and the radio went off. I then drove the car ~120 miles and
parked it for the night. This AM, the car wouldn't start. The
starter would only click once and not initiate the engine to turn
over. The radio and lights work, so there is electricity in the
battery. We then tried to jump the car and it wouldn't start. I
rolled the car backwards to see if the starter was hitting a dead spot
and it wouldn't start. Finally, even though the engine and terminals
are very clean, I took the battery cables off of the terminals and
reattached them. It started. And, after waiting 5 and 15 minutes it
still started.
Now, I am glad the car started, but I am worried about a bad
electrical connection and the possibility of fire. Should I be
concerned and, if so, what should I do?
