the north was becoming an industrial wage based economy while the south had a distinct agricultural economy that was also very much intertwined with their social system (slavery) because different ecnoomies will have different demands on the political system, the south wanted permanent equality in the senate, thru laws regulating the admission of new states. towards the war this became unsustainable, as the north was growing much faster than the south. |
