BackWeb lite is a software which some hardware and software vendors
use for automatic updates. See
http://shopper.cnet.com/4002-7409_9-6227563.html for more information
on this.

If it annoys you(e.g. displays pop-ups, etc), then try disabling it by
changing settings in software which it came with(e.g. Logitech Desktop
Messenger). Or try uninstalling it via Control Panel->Add/Remove
Programs. If nothing works, only then try to use some spyware removal
tool(e.g. HijackThis) to remove it.

You may as well leave it as is, because it is not a threat at all.

BackWeb is a marketing/update tool used by popular computer makers
like HP. It is not neccessary, and uses lots of memory and makes your
computer start time much slower. Just uninstall the software from the
Add/Remove option in Control Panel.
