I asked the question below and received no answers. I have increased
the offer to $200, changed the quesiton a bit and have suggested an
approach for someone with more time than I have.
1. The question: Replace "top 5000" with "all publicly listed
companies in the top 15 economies in the world with market
capitalisation over $2,000,000,000"
2. Approach: Go to the stock exchange site in each of those countries
and download the companies with >2b in market cap. Then consolidate
the 15 lists - I would accept an unconsolidated list if this makes it
too time consuming and I will get someone in my office to do the merge
3. The original question: I need a list (in excel spreadsheet) of the
top 5000 publicly listed corporations in the world, by market
capitalisation, with name,
country, industry type and market capitalisation
4. New question
I need a list (in excel spreadsheet) of the publicly listed
corporations in the top 15 economies in the world, with market
capitalisation in excess of $2,000,000,000, with name,country,

This is the beginning of a process of determining the size of the
global market for "Compliance solutions". So I am curious to know the
size of the 5000th largest publicly listed company in the world - is
it's market cap more or less than $2b?
So the list is only a reference to help me work out the next step of the process.
eg how many are in each of the 15 countries
  what sort of companies will I find in those ranges outside the USA, UK etc?

Here's the deal.

1.  By my count, the number of publicly-traded companies with market
cap above $2 billion is far smaller than 5,000 companies

2.  By lowering the range to $1 billion, I created a list of 3800+ companies.

3.  HOWEVER, the list clearly includes some companies -- not that
many, but some -- whose market cap is expressed in some currency other
than US dollars.  This, of course, makes strict comparisons difficult,
but can still be useful for the sort of screening you have in mind.

Again, there aren't that many in alternative currencies, but you do
need to use the list keeping that possibility in mind.

4.  Since the list is a bit squirrely in that regard, I'm posting it
here for your review, but I have not yet posted it as a formal answer
to your question:

The list is in country order (Venezuala to ARE, which is an
abbreviation for United Arab Emirates -- don't ask my why!).  Within
each country, the companies are ranked by market cap, largest to
smallest.

If you're handy with spreadsheets, you can easily rearrange this to
suit your particular interests.


Anyway, have a look, and let me know what you think, and whether it
suits you as an answer to your question.

I manually checked on a good number of the more obviously off-kilter
companies, and either converted their market cap to US dollars, or
removed them all together if they didn't belong to the over-a-billion
market cap club (a few companies are still listed that were under, but
very close to the 1 billion mark).

I can't claim that the list is perfect at this point--there's simply
too many companies here to manually check each and every market cap
figure for non-US companies.

However, I think I got most of the real doozies.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you on this one.

as you probably know.

They are ranked by revenue.

This would probably be a lot easier to research on a bloomberg
terminal than on google.  You can probably get it answered in an ADSK
if you know someone with a terminal.
