She was definitly alive as for two month ago. According to a news
article from September 2005, she was still alive:
"Der Olympiasieger im Paarlauf starb im Alter von 95 Jahren, seine
Partnerin und spätere Ehefrau Maxi Herber-Baier wird am 8.
Oktober 85 Jahre alt. Sie lebt in einem Altersheim in

Translation:
"The olympic champion in pairs skating died in the age of 95. His
partner, and later wife, Maxi Herber-Baier will be 85 years old on
Oct. 8th. She lives in an old-people's home in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen".
The Frankfurter Neue Presse reported on October 7th, 2005, about her
birthday the next day, and mentioned that Ms. Herber-Baier has
Parkinson's disease.
