Dear Rael,

She was definitly alive as for two month ago. According to a news
article from September 2005, she was still alive:

"Der Olympiasieger im Paarlauf starb im Alter von 95 Jahren, seine
Partnerin und spätere Ehefrau Maxi Herber-Baier wird am 8.
Oktober 85 Jahre alt. Sie lebt in einem Altersheim in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen." (SOURCE: "Erfolgreichster Eiskunstläufer
wäre 100 geworden", Yahoo! News, 27 September 2005,
<http://de.sports.yahoo.com/050927/27/5jyh.html>).

Translation:
"The olympic champion in pairs skating died in the age of 95. His
partner, and later wife, Maxi Herber-Baier will be 85 years old on
Oct. 8th. She lives in an old-people's home in
Garmisch-Partenkirchen".

The Frankfurter Neue Presse reported on October 7th, 2005, about her
birthday the next day, and mentioned that Ms. Herber-Baier has
Parkinson's disease.

Neue Presse, Oct. 7th, 2005,

I met Maxi Herber-Baier in Garmisch on the 23rd September 2005. I was
interviewing her for a book I am writing on the 1936 Olympics. I am
sorry to say that she was very ill. I am in contact with her daughter
if you require any more information.
