Can you provide a database, or excel spreadsheet with the location of all oil/gas wells in texas? Ideally, I'm looking for a table with API Number (a unique well identifier code), the name of the well, and the location in latitude/longitude coordinates. I know the Texas Rail road commission provides some information, and I am aware that there are multiple for fee data services (IHS, etc) but I'm looking for something I can use instead of a pointer to another potential source. |

I was in the oil and gas industry in Texas until last year. Getting info from the TRRC is like pulling teeth. I dont think there is a good answer for finding "all" oil wells in texas. First the railroad commission is about 3 months behind on all the info they can provide. As far as API # you can research that but also it would depend on what stage the well is in (drilling, completion, etc) Our company had a membership to a great website with probably the best info available the fastest, www.drillinginfo.com; but this is quite expensive. It is really the only thing that helped us out. Also there are people/companies that will do the research for you. We had a guy in Austin that would actually go to the courthouses and pull all filings for any particular well that included land platt, operator info, ownership, the drill, the geology and any other info just by giving him the API#. If i am correct the guy we used charged about $50 per well or would do a group at a time discounted. Hope this helps I guess it mainly depends on what you are looking for. |
