Question ID: 590140
How can I fix the uneven height of my kitchen cabinet handles? They
were drilled unevenly.

I have Cherry Wood Cabinets. I had someone install the knobs onto the
doors and draws. Some of the handles are not exactly at the same
hight and I need to get them even. Does anyone know how I can patch
the hole in the wood or do something to make these handles even.
Thanks.

What a shame. I'll bet the wood is beautiful. How many holes per
handle and how many handles need to be moved. Would it be possible to
cover the old holes with a different style handle. If you start trying
to fill holes and refinish, it might be a real nightmare to make it
look good. If having the handles not line up irritates you, having
patched holes that are not perfect might be a problem too.

There is only one hole per cabinet. I was wondering if there is
something I could glue in the hole (small splinter of wood to raise it
up if I made the hole bigger).

One thing I forgot to ask. How far do the holes need to be moved.

Patching the holes and leaving them in a visible part of the wood will
likely leave a noticeable blemish, unless the entire cabinet fronts
are repainted or refinished.

The best option is use handles with a large-enough 'collar' (for lack
of the proper word) to cover up any holes left exposed after
repositioning the handles. This can work if you are moving them, say,
a quarter of an inch or so.

Is my description clear? Does that seem a viable option?

I think it will help if you give more information regarding the
material the cabinet doors are made from, etc.

Not sure if this is what you are asking but maybe go beyond the knobs
and look at adjusting the actual doors. Many times when a cabinet is
installed it isn't square which is typical for any type of
construction. Most doors are hung, the knobs are put on, then there
are adjustments to make to the door hinges that will allow knobs to
line up. The actual door itself may not be 100% level at this point
but from a close view it will appear level if the knobs line up. If
there are not any adjustments on the hinges you can "spring" them by
placing something like an allen wrench inside the hinge and slightly
closing the door. This adjustment is made at the opposite end of where
you would want the knob to move. For example left knob is low. Place
the allen wrench in the bottom left hinge and close door. Hope this
helps--
