Now that I've removed my scale-infested Sago Palm, what, if anything,
can I plant in the hole? Is the dirt infected and if so, is there
anything I can do to sterilize it or amend it. I don't plan to plant
another Sago. Thanks

Perhaps this information will be helpful.

Better to discard old soil than re-use it for another tree. Sterilize
first if you need to re-use it.

[edit]

Ants can spread the young scale insects, so eliminating ants (with
diazinon) will help.
