I would like to know the approximate market size for Pressure Relief
Valves (PRVs) used by municipal water utilities (public and private)
in the US.

Dear Hydroman,

I haven't found very much market information on PRVs, because it is
such a specific market. However, there is plenty of market
information on Industrial valves (SIC 3491) which I can provide for
you, and which may help you estimate the market for PRVs.

What I can also provide are the PRV producers, and their revenues,
from which you would be able to make an intelligent estimate. I have
found 24 so far. I could help you attempt to estimate the market from
industry readings as well.

In case I don't hear from you by the time your question expires
tomorrow, you should feel welcome to repost it.

As sometimes happens with market research, it’s easy to find out
what’s available via Google and the Internet, but not always easy to
find numbers for specific product categories.

There are at least two studies done by independent research
organizations that treat pressure-relief valves AND
pressure-regulation valves; the less-expensive report breaks them into
two separate categories and seems to be a better fit for what you’re
seeking. Both studies include segmentation by industry and have
separate statistics for municipal water utilities as well as
wastewater facilities. And both are worldwide, but include breakdowns
by country. One is $650 and the other $3,900.

In addition, the Valve Manufacturers Association, http://www.vma.org,
does an annual summary of the $2.7 billion valve industry that breaks
the market into 12 different product types and 15 industry segments.
The report is apparently only available with an associate membership,
costing $2,400.

Because I wasn’t able to get the precise information you’re seeking, I
post this as a comment rather than an answer. If you’d be satisfied
with a more complete list of sources for market data, I’d be glad to
post it as an answer.
