Hi could you please check out my new site, tell me what you think?
http://www.tanee.com

This is my first venture.

Family and friends are to nice and don't give honest opinions, but I
do know you experts can give me some blunt honesty.

I will write another question so I can receive more opions.

Thanks

Hi needresearch-ga,

Let me preface my remarks by saying that I am coming at this from the
perspective of someone who makes the majority of my purchases online,
and not as a website designer. So I will be looking at things such as
content, readability, ease of navigation, ease of ordering, visual and
textual information, etc. As you are looking for a variety of
opinions, I am assuming that diverse viewpoints would be of value to
you.

FIRST PAGE

(1)
“It's Labor Day shopping time. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend with new
shades. You save with our sunglasses allowing you to shop for more
styles. $12.99 on most sunglass styles. So bring your credit card and
lets go shopping!”

Two problems here:
There should be a comma after “…save with our sunglasses,”
There should be an apostrophe in let’s

I’m going to be brutal here. Grammar and spelling errors on a website
make me think that the people running the place aren’t very
professional. One error I might overlook, but two errors in the same
paragraph would start to raise red flags.

I don’t really know how to say this kindly, but I am assuming that if
you wanted kindness, you would not have asked for an honest opinion.
This whole first page is rife with grammatical errors. You really need
to have someone rewrite it for you, correcting grammar, spelling,
typos, awkward construction and errors in consistency. Your text also
lacks “punch”, something that a good writer/editor could inject into
it. Here are just a few things that I found:

- Affordable assortment of ubran styles ( should be “urban”)
- The original sunglasses were made by the Inuit (Eskimos) people.
(should be “Eskimo”)
- Ayscough felt that clear lenses gave off to much glare (should be
“too”)

Please consider having someone edit all of this text for you. I have
to tell you honestly that I think you will lose sales with text like
this. Many people are already reluctant to order online, fearing that
it is not safe. More people everyday see the value of purchasing
online, and decide to wade in and give it a try. Why not make them
feel secure in the belief that they are dealing with a company that is
professional in every way? Since they don’t know you, won’t be talking
to you, and can’t look into your face as they do business with you,
all you have are the words and pictures on your website to convey the
impression that you are someone to whom they can entrust their
business. Make sure your text creates the right impression about you.

For more information about safe online shopping, visit:
http://docs.yahoo.com/docs/info/consumertips.html

This should be a clickable link, making it easy for the customer to
check the information.

(3)
There’s an awful lot of text on this first page that probably does not
need to be here. A clean, elegant website might have “About Us” and
“Choosing the Proper Sunglasses” and “History of Sunglasses” on
another page, with attractive links (buttons or tabs) on the first
page.

(4)
I would also move the photos of the sunglasses up so that they are
immediately seen without scrolling. Many people do not scroll down to
the bottom of the first page on a website, so your photos and the text
below them might not be seen. The photos are colorful and attractive,
and will catch the eye. I might rotate them, though, so the glasses
are horizontal and not vertical.

BEYOND THE FIRST PAGE

(1)
I clicked on “356 Grey Rimless Sunglasses” and found more spelling and
grammar errors. I’m sorry to harp on this, but these errors will loose
you sales. Again, the photos are well done and professional looking,
but you might consider changing them to horizontal. They probably do
not need to be as large as you have them, as they seem to be loosing a
bit of sharpness at that size.

(2)
When you list “Tanee’s Price: $12.99” it implies that the list price
is higher. If this is so, you might want to show the listed price, as
you want to position yourself as a discount source.

(3)
I followed the ordering process through to entering credit card
information, and that all seems to work smoothly. I added items,
returned to shopping, removed items, changed quantities, and all of
the other things that a typical shopper might do. It all worked well.

I hope that you will take my remarks in the spirit in which they were
intended. You are a good customer of Google Answers, and so I would
not want to give you anything less than a candid and useful review of
your website. If you have questions on any of the above, please do not
hesitate to ask for clarification.

I wish you great success on your new venture, needresearch, and hope
that you will find my remarks helpful.

Regards,

Beth

Beth,

Did you know that my family and friends looked at this website and
never mentioned any of the points you discussed? What you had to say
was very important, as your comments made me aware of problems with
the site before the store opens. True, customers only care about the
website content and not the backend work.

Kind Regards,

needs research
