I am trying to access my home computer from my work or from anywhere.
I have DSL at home.
1. Can I VPN it?
     - Yes you can, but it is rather technical. Unless you really see
the need, I would recommend simply accessing remotely.
2. If not can I use PC Anywhere software to do that.
     - You can access your remote pc screen by using VNC. You install
the server on your PC and the viewer on the remote computer that will
be accessing your computer. Vnc link (
http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html )
3. What are the steps to install the PC anywhere and implement it to
access my home computer from my work.
       - VNC is really straightforward, just run the server and don't
forget to set a password, very important.
5. How can I make sure that I have dynamic or static IP Address?
4. If I have a dynamic IP Address. How can I make it static IP Address?
        - Using the free NOIP service, you can access a domain name to
your computer (mycomputer.something.com) that will be updated
everytime your ip changes. No-Ip homepage : http://www.no-ip.com/

The easiest solution is to subscribe to GotoMyPC ( http://www.gotomypc.com ).

The software is easy to use and enables you to avoid all the issues
with traditional remote desktop solutions. There is no need to worry
about VPN or firewalls with the way that GotoMyPC uses a common broker
on the Internet.

Even better, it is secure. It has SSL level protection for
communication between the home computer and other machines.

The solution is well thought out and should be what you are looking for.

mhasaad-ga,
I think the best solution for you would be a product like goToMyPc
sicne u don't have to worry about dynamic/static ips, vpns, firewalls
etc. But goToMyPc is a paid service.

I prefer and like logMeIn's freebie (though they have a very good
professional paid version too). The free version is available at:
https://secure.logmein.com/go.asp?page=products_free#
and should satisfy most of your needs.

Answer to no.4:
U can use any free service like the one mentioned by jeedee-ga. I
personally prefer dyndns (www.dyndns.com).

Answer to no.5:
If each time u connect to the internet, your ip changes then u know
you have a dynamic dns. I guess u know this but u can check your ip by
double-clicking the connection icon in the system tray once connected
and switching to the "support" tab - this is if you are on Windows.

Usually most dial-ups, broadband connections come with dynamic ips
while most leased lines, servers etc are associated with a static ip.
Its a safe bet that if you didnt explicitly pay for a static ip, you don't have one.

Hi,
1.	How to use set up VPN to access my home computer.
Yes for that you either need to have VPN server at your end or at your
Desktop of else if you have watchguard firewall Firebox X50 (or any
other model of it), this provides the VPN connectivity but that a
complex procedure.
2.	How to know if I have static or dynamic.

Go to the command prompt of your Desktop and type "ipconfig" and ask
your ISP about it.
3.	How to make it static if it?s dynamic.

If the IP is dynamic you need to ask ISP for the static IP, they will
provide you with some per annum charge for it.
4.	How to set up Pc anywhere if all above is not applicable.

Install PC anywhere server in you pc and always keep the pc anywhere
client with you and install it on the desktop from which you would
like to access it.

4. I don?t want to use any software beside pc anywhere
Good PC anywhere has encryption facility and the advantage of which is
that all you do will be encrypted with 128bit encryption which will
save flow of data from hacker spyware reach.

Cheers!!!

You can only set up Remote Desktop Connection to your home computer if
it has XP Pro. Home doesn't have this feature. You also need a high
speed connection. RDC is free and built in.
Barring XP Pro, pcAnywhere is pretty good but requires buying the
software. 1 time cost. GoToMyPc requires monthly fees but it's a
good service.

To call your home computer by either RDC or pcAnywhere, you normally
type in its IP address (assuming no home network). To get around the
issue of changing IP's, log into www.no-ip.com and sign up for a free
service. Then you would type in your no-ip address such as
xxx.no-ip.org and it would translate that to your updated current IP
address.

If your home computer is on a LAN, you would need to set up a static
LAN IP on it. ie, if you're using a Linksys router with an IP of
192.168.1.1 and a DHCP range of 192.168.100-199, use something like
192.168.1.10, and be sure to insert the DNS server settings (obtained
from a cmd prompt and ipconfig /all)
Then go into the router and forward the correct port to 192.168.1.10
(3389 for RDC)

It's a bit geeky to set up but once done, it never needs changing.
Good luck

PCAnywhere requires your knowing how to open ports at the host
locations firewall/router.
A simple solution is using GOTOMYPC.com, it can automatically pass
through firewalls.
A less expensive solution would be logmein.com 's Logmein (free) or
Pro for added features.
