I?m trying to find data that describes, for organizations running
Linux, how many Linux servers they have. The sample size should be
large, at least 100 data points, and should cover organizations
ranging from from small businesses to F1000 corporations, educational
institutions, and government; however, the data should emphasize the
private sector more than the public sector. Worldwide statistics are
preferred, but North American statistics are acceptable. Breaking out
the data by industry would also be nice, but not required.

For example, something that looks like (breakpoint tiers just an example):

1-20 servers 32%
20-100 servers 28%
100-500 servers 20%
500-1000 servers 15%
1000+ servers 5%

It may be gone now, but two or three days ago, www.justlinux.com in
their homepage news had an article linked on another news service on
more or less this same issue, except the article measured above 95
units, not 100.
