After Deng Xiaoping visited the US in January of 1979 the Peoples
Republic of China again allowed Christian groups to come into China.
I would like to know what month and year this was? Was it September
1979, Feb. 1980, when was it?

Which government in China at what period? Prior to the communist
government, Christian missionaries were more active. Here are a few
of sites on the subject:

http://www.wfn.org/1997/11/msg00159.html

Many more sites can be found with: china missionaries

If you are asking about the present Chinese government, one site
mentions that missionaries became more active again after China opened
to the West in the 1970s, some openly, some undercover.

Hope this helps. This is only a free comment, not an "answer" to your
question. If you can clarify your question, a more precise answer
should be possible.

Hi,
I was hoping someone would be able to give you a date.
I found one site that mentioned missionaries returning in 1979 and
this one speaking of 1983:
http://www.presbyterianireland.org/news/news1996/news0038.html

This tallies with what this site says about China officially
recognizing Christianity as a religion in 1982:
http://www.wfn.org/1997/11/msg00159.html
http://www.americancatholic.org/Messenger/Sep2004/Feature1.asp

This was in the new Chinese Constitution:
http://www.oefre.unibe.ch/law/icl/ch00000_.html

Here is some explanation that in 1978 restrictions on religion were
loosened and in 1979 formalized:

also see the links.

I give up on finding a month ...
Cheers, Myoarin
