I have an e-commerce site and would like to gain some idea of the
average hits per day of other e-commerce sites in my industry, which
is beauty (I sell hair products.) Are there any studies/reports that
have compiled such information?

Hello
Would 'page views' or 'unique visitors' be a suitable benchmark (if
available) as 'hits' is an unreliable method of measurement.
kind regards
lot-ga

By "hits," I mean "Unique visitors" so info regarding unique visitors
will work for me.

I don't know about your industry but I do know about the sunglass
industry.

With a simple listing in yahoo, one can expect about 3,500 unique
visits a month. With top ranking in the search engines, your website
visits jump to 50,000. There are about 160,000 searches for sunglasses
a month.

Thanks, but I am really interested in either an overall number or
numbers specific to the beauty or hair industry.
