Hi aaz,

I have compiled a list for you based on two top-100 lists. The top
fifteen by number of mentions are:

Miles Davis
John Coltrane
Charles Mingus
Duke Ellington
Louis Armstrong
Ornette Coleman
Count Basie
Stan Getz
Thelonious Monk
Bill Evans
Charlie Parker
Ella Fitzgerald
Eric Dolphy
Joe Henderson
Sonny Rollins

If you want to throw some of these out because they are primarily
singers or bandleaders rather than musicians, or if you would just
like more choices, the next eight are:

Art Blakey
Benny Goodman
Cannonball Adderley
Charlie Haden
Dave Holland
Herbie Hancock
Horace Silver
Max Roach

These are all well-known artists whose albums are readiy available
from online stores.
