OK, so we're the typical college students. We want to go on Spring
break. Here are the places we're considering, in rough order of
preference:

Cancun
Cabo
Daytona Beach

Here are the criteria. We are traveling in a group of four and I'd
love to get a package, but I just will not settle for their
scam-artist hotels that are in the ghetto of <insert location here>
where I'm going to get hassled by sketchy locals. I'd like a
recommendation on book-it-yourself or package. We are all students.

-#1 PRIORITY: No sketchy hotels.
-Decent location
-Close to where the party will be at (i.e. "DRUNK ZONE" - search that
on google you'll find the map I found of Cancun)
-Dates are Mar 13-18
-We'd like to pay between $500-$800/person hotel only or <$1000
airfare+hotel. We will all stay in one room.
-I'm not interested in their "included" food/drink plans. That has
scam written all over it.
-I want these things to come from PEOPLE, not someone who has a stake
in selling the hotel. Think blogs and tripadvisor.com - I'm more
interested in BAD reviews than good ones--these are the ones that
count.
-I don't really care about the airfare, I can leave from anywhere in
greater Los Angeles and as long as it gets me there and back at a
reasonable rate at a reasonable time, that's fine. The HOTEL is #1.

I want this answer to be a thouroughly researched review of each of
these places - the bottom line on particular hotels should be apparent
after a few reviews. I will not stand for sketchy harassment by
locals, no hot water, excessively disgusting rooms, bad locations that
cost a lot in cab fare to get where I'm going, etc. You don't need to
give info on a lot of hotels, just pick the diamonds in the rough (one
or two for each location should suffice) and tell me why I'm going to
be happy staying there and who told you that. I'm a very experienced
googler so when I check up on your information, if it looks like what
I wanted, you'll be getting a big tip. This can be a slam dunk if the
quality of the information is right on target.

FYI I am looking at the "Krystal" hotel in Cancun as a likely choice
and it looks like its going to be between 400-500/person for a
low-complaint hotel in the primary spot right on the corner of that L
that appears to be the spot for partying. Specific pros/cons on that
are appreciated.
