I see some printers are 1200x1200 dpi and others are 2400x600.  Which
type of printer would produce the best looking monochrome images?

Are there any B/W printers that have higher resoultion then 2400x600 or 1200x1200?

The number of dots per square inch are the same so the rendering
algorithm of the printer is going to matter most.

Xerox is generally regarded to be tops in this area for small to
medium business. (Based on my review of printer reviews at
cnet/pcworld)

For photographs I think that purpose specific INKJETS are still
superior to lasers (which were primarily designed with text and simple
graphics in mind).

Thanks for your comment.  I should have clarified that yes Ink jets
are better for photos my need is printing about 200 x 20 page booklets
for an organization and ink jet would not work for that.
