Top 50 homebuilder shows in continental U.S.

Request for Question Clarification by guillermo-ga on 25 Nov 2005 15:15 PST
Hello Gregaroo-ga,

I've found a list of top home shows nationwide for 2005, but its
records almost triple the number you requested. Since it's not ranked
but alphabetical it doesn't show the first 50. I tried to find a way
to rank them myself but finding the complete facts needed (basically
attendance and economics) is virtually impossible for a one-man
few-days project. That said, would you accept that list as an answer?

Sincerely,

Guillermo

Hello gregaroo-ga,

Please expand on what type of shows you're looking for and what
criteria should be used for choosing the "Top 50 homebuilder shows."

The biggest trade show seems to be the International Builders? Show
from the National Association of Home Builders. There also are
regional home shows that showcase local builders. Are these the kinds
of home builder shows you're looking for?

Hello Gragaroo-ga,

Expanding on my previous request for clarification and in relation
with my colleague's one, in my attempt to identify the 50 top
homeshows I've already phoned most of the local state home builders
association (affiliates of the National Association of Home Builders)
so they could orientate me to identify the one or two largest home
shows in their state. That part is already covered, so if a list of
the one or two outstanding home shows for every continental state
would make your answer, I'm already in a position to post it. Now,
that criterion would not be exactly the "top 50" - for example, the
large list I told you about include more but almost half states don't
appear in it - because "top" is necessarily related to commertial
potential, namely, economics and or attendance. Please let me know if
the 100+ list mentioned in my first request would make the answer, or
else the top home shows for each state - or both - and I'll post it as
soon as I see your clarification. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Guillermo

Thanks for your research and hard work. I will accept what you have.
Was looking for the largest shows in terms of "attendance" but if you
don't have all the data to rank them, I understand. I will take
whatever you have. I mdo like the format that your colleague listed
with the URL address for each of the shows and then the dates and
location. I will be able to follow up that way with each of them.
The first list sounds like what I am looking for. Again, thanks for
your help.

Hello Gregaroo-ga,

Thank you for your flexibility!

The task wasn't easy, but it was entertaining :)

The big problem was the tiny word "top", which requires a ranking.

As I told you in my previous messages, after my search there doesn't
seem to be any ranking available online. The closest to that that I
found was an alphabetic list called "Top 125 Home Shows Calendar 2005"
reproduced by Swimming Pools & Supplies
(http://www.swimmingpoolsandsupplies.com/Home_Shows_2005.html ) by
courtesy of Pool & Spa Living (http://www.poolspaliving.com/ ) . I
couldn't find the original version, though.

That list seemed good, except for the 75 records over your request,
with no way to determine the top 50, since it's sorted alphabetically
by location and not ranked. Other than that it would have fitted your
needs - despite the minor detail of including a few home shows for
Canada, all the rest belong to continental US.

So I decided to try building a rank myself by contacting first hand
sources within my possibilities. Thus, I first phoned the National
Association of Home Builders, but there I would only receive
information regarding their own International Builder's Show. Then,
using their website's search tool for their local affiliate
associations (http://www.nahb.org/local_association_search_form.aspx )
I contacted most of them by phone in order to find the data that would
allow me to rank the list I already had found. Unfortunately, that was
not possible because the state associations were able - at most - to
provide orientation about the attendance/economics within their own
states but, left aside certain events particularly famous nationwide,
they were unable to provide comparative information for different
states. Therefore, building a ranking myself proved to be impractical
within a few-days online search, since the statistical and economical
data required is yet to be dug up.

The alternative - though imperfect - approximation I thought of was to
build up a list for the largest shows in each state. You as I are both
aware that - even though that makes a list of about 50 records of the
most important home show for each state, a *top 50 home shows list for
continental US* is a different thing because, for instance, one
particular state could have 10 home shows larger than the largest ones
of ten other states. Also, in a few cases determining the largest home
show of a state remained impossible for not reaching the right person
to orientate me. Finally, for the states of Minnesota, Utah and
Wyoming either I didn't find information on home shows or it wasn't
relevant enough. However, the list has already reached 60 records.

Now, I hope that the "Top 125 Home Shows Calendar 2005" provided
above, plus the list of the largest home show for each US continental
state posted below, will be useful enough for your purpose - note that
some records will appear in both lists. Please ask for clarification
if needed.

Search keywords:
"top home shows" 2005 OR 2006
"home builders association"

Guillermo,

Thank you so much for a job well done. The Spa list was a little vage
since it has to do with home and garden as opposed to home building,
but I think there are a few on that list that may be worth my checking
into.

The bottom half is perfect. Thanks again for all your help.

Greg

We have several public shows in Central Indiana besides the two Parade
of Homes scattered site shows. Our single site shows draw almost
30,000 people over a three week time frame. Those shows have website -
www.LuxuryHomeARama.com and www.LifestyleHomeARama.com
Good luck with your search.
