How do I turn off the confirmation dialog box when changing a files
extension in windows?

jamstah...

There's no direct way to do that, that I know of, however
there's a wonderful utility that closes that and any other
obnoxious and unnecessary dialog windows you tell it to,
called PTFB (Push The Freakin Button). I love it.

It used to be freeware, and you might still be able to 
find a free copy of it somewhere, but here's the homepage:

Oh! Good news! I found the last freeware version of PTFB
intact, on PCWorld:

Trust me, after a week with this program, you'll never
know how you got along without it.

Thanks for that. I am already aware of dialog box automaters, but what
I really want is a way to disable it.

I recently tried using a registry monitor tool to see if I could work
out if there was a registry setting that would affect it, but I didn't
have much luck.
