I am looking for places/clinics in India, Mexico,Arentina or United
Kingdom where a person can go and get rTMS( rapid transmagnetic
stimulation). This is a relativly new treatment for refractory
depression. This essentially replaces the old elctroconvulsive
therapy. I am looking for such clinics. I prefer a place that has
experience.

Dear pakr,

As you may know, repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is an
experimental therapy that has not yet been approved for general use in
the United States or the United Kingdom. The trouble is that nearly all
rTMS manufacturers are located in these countries, as are most rTMS
installations. As far as I know, there are no public rTMS clinics in
India, Mexico, or Argentina. There are, however, some in Canada.

Before discussing Canadian treatment facilities, let me note that the
least expensive option for the time being, although probably not the
quickest one, is to apply for inclusion in an rTMS clinical trial.

In the United Kingdom, the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at
University College London is accepting applications from volunteers
for their TMS studies. Note that TMS is the same thing as rTMS. The
word "repetitive" is sometimes dropped from the name, but the therapy
is identical.

The only commercial rTMS treatment of which I am aware is offered
in Canada by the Mindcare Centres. Because your question implies a
willingness to travel, and because Mindcare is the most experienced
rTMS therapy provider in the world, this is probably the best choice
for you. If your travel documents make it possible for you to enter the
United Kingdom, you should be able to enter Canada as well. See the last
link below for phone numbers.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). We specialize
in delivering a safe and effective treatment for depression called
repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or simply called
rTMS. rTMS therapy has been extensively validated in clinical
trials and medical research studies, and has been approved for
    use in Canada.

I am not critisising the answer recived. I have all the enclosed data
plus more. I know for a fact that there are clinics in other
countries. My impression that most rTMS manufacturers are in the US
and UK and other western countries. The good researcher no doubt
should recive credit and be paid, however not the original amount.

The researcher answered your original question completely. If you
already had all this information, why didn't you ask a much more
specific question?

Since 2004, I've been doing much research on the web on the use of
rTMS for depression in clinical trials and various other studies. The
researcher's answer pretty well sums up what I've found also as far as
actually getting the treatment at this point in time since it is
currently only approved for clinical use in Canada and Israel.
Neuronetics (www.neuronetics.com) just finished up a nationwide (US)
clinical trial for the use of TMS in the treatment of major
depression. They will be submitting their results to the FDA this
year.

I'm not sure if the researcher will read this, but I have a simple
YES/NO question which I hope leapinglizard-ga can answer...

I have the same question that pakr-ga had (Where can I go to get rTMS)
except that I am only looking for locations in the US. (Already have
the info on Mindcare Centres in Canada.) So I just want to know if
paying a fee will provide a great deal more info on US locations
besides what you've already provided or what's easily found on the
internet. Yes? No?

Thanks for your help!
