I recall an instrumental piece circa 1963 that ran for about 2 1/2
minutes and was dominated by an electric guitar theme. The
instrumental projected a very eerie aura and could have served as the
theme for a suspense/terror/horror picture, but I don't think it was.
The piece sounded extremely close to the opening theme for the
Twilight Zone series but was not definitely not that piece. I think
its name was Beyond the Limit. Can somebody confirm this title? A
five dollar tip follows if somebody can provide the name of the group
and a referral to where buy a copy of the LP/45/CD on which the piece
appears. |

I am 99% certain that you're remembering "Out of Limits," by The
Marketts (or a later version by The Ventures). The beginning of "Out
of Limits" sounds very much like the theme from "The Twilight Zone."
Here you can listen to a German group, The Muffinmates, doing "Out of Limits":

Please let me know if this is the correct song. If it is, I'll be glad
to tell you where you can purchase the original version by the
Marketts or the cover version by The Ventures on LP, 45, or CD (any
preference???)

Yes, that is the tune I'm looking for. The year 1963 sticks out in my
mind. Is either the Markett or the Ventures version from that year?
Can you send a snippet of both so I can compare? I would prefer a
version on CD.

The Marketts' original version of "Out of Limits" was climbing the
charts in December of 1963.. The Ventures' version came out shortly
afterward, in 1964. They are quite similar.
I've found some online clips. Neither of these clips has the opening,
Twilight Zone-ish riff, however.
Here you'll find a brief clip from The Marketts' version (Song #5):

And here there's a clip from The Ventures' version (Song #4):

What do you think?

The Marketts one is it.
Can you find a CD or LP that has just their stuff on it?
If not, the source mentioned in your last message will do if it is
still available for sale.
Thanks.
