What is the value of airline miles as a percentage of the cost of the tickets that earn them. In otherwords, if I convert my airline miles into tickets, and then divide the cash value of those tickets by the money I spent earning those miles, what is the percentage I am getting back? |

I remember reading in the New York Times earlier this year that a frequent flier mile is worth approximately 1.4 cents on average across the major American airlines. This should help you do any conversion you need to do. |

I should add one thing--the value of the mile is totally dependent upon how you use it and how you earn it. |

Thanks. What I need to know also, is how much does it cost, on average, to earn a flier mile? Also, it may seem like a stupid question, but is a flier mile related *directly* to the actual physical miles flown on a 1 to 1 basis? |
