I am seeking the most accurate available estimate of the combined length of all of the public rights-of-way (streets, highways, alleys etc.) that are maintained by the County of San Luis Obispo's Department of Public Works (http://www.slocountypwd.org/) (i.e., excluding Federal and State highways like U.S. Route 101). In addition to the specific number (in miles, feet or any unit), the answer must identify a publicly available source from which the information can be derived. This information is likely to have been collected by the California Departmant of Transportation (Caltrans) (http://www.dot.ca.gov/), as part of its reporting to the federal Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (http://www.bts.gov/) for the Transportation Statistics Annual Report (http://www.bts.gov/publications/national_transportation_statistics/). Other likely sources are the Institute of Transportation Studies at Berkeley (http://www.its.berkeley.edu/index.html), and the National Academy of Sciences' Transportation Research Board (http://gulliver.trb.org/). |

Hello Automandc, According to the publication titled ?Roads Program Status 2005? , the maintenance division of the Public Works Department of the County of San Luis Obispo is responsible for maintaining 1,316 miles of roads.
