How much profit was there on the whole shipment?

If that is $6 per lamp, how many lamps were there?

You could also set this up as an algebra problem.

Let L be the number of lamps...

total profit is $72.  $6 per lamp.  $72 dollars/$6 per lamp = 12 lamps.

The question is vague... you need to specify the amount sold..
