What is the ownership record and stories of the real property: 1315
18th Street, Sacramento CA 95814, built 1900. this property was
rehabilitated in 2001 and won a local architecture award that year. i
beleive it is on some sort of historical Registry - I hope to have the
builder's name original owner and historical references - local
stories of interest about the building.

Hello -

Thank you for your question.

I have located the original owner, along with people who have owned
the property since; however, I have verified with a record-keeping
office that, although there may be a publicly accessible written
record with information on the property, details on the contractor are
most likely not included. Notwithstanding, for $25, you can have the
office do specific research to look up the record for that property.

I'm still awaiting any additional information available on the property.

Is an answer without the name of the original builder of value?

The answer and material that you have attained so far - would be
useful and interesting and I'd be satisfied - but - I'd like you to
pursue the information on the Contractor, as it would really complete
our story on this property. Please charge the additional $25 on the
American express card that I paid for the question - or - contact me
and I'll authorize an additional charge if necessary. thank you

Hello -

I have only been able to track down the ownership record of the
property at this time. Despite looking, I have not been able to find
any interesting stories on the property as you have originally
requested. Are you interested in the ownership record for this
property? If so, you may lower the price of your question (if you
would like) to accommodate this information. Once you've done that, I
can post this information, and then you can post a tip for $25 -- this
will provide me with the funds necessary to pull the record on the
file with the office (again, I must stress, there is a slim to none
chance that the builder/contractor will be on that record).

Yes Please conduct the possibly fruitless search for the contractor
name and I will tip the additional $25 to pay for this search. What do
you suggest the $200 fee be lowered to? thanks again

OK -- will do. With regard to setting the price, whatever you see fit.

Thanks,

Are we done now?

My apologies -- I didn't clarify that the price alteration that we
were talking about actually has to occur on your part before we go any
further. There should be an "Edit Question Parameters" button or
something to that regard, that you can click and change the price of
the question.

Thanks,

Hello -

The original owner of the property was Mary M. Francis, in the early
1900's. Her estate sold the property in recent years, and it has
since been turned over several times. The table below shows the
timeline of ownership:

Date | Sold to
?????????????????????????????????????????????
C. 1905-1910 | Mary M. Francis
Sep. 4, 1998 | Christine & John Deterding
Jan. 8, 1999 | Greg Spitz
Oct. 31, 2000 | Dietmar Gabby
Aug. 10 2001 | Garry Garris & Bryan Mooney
May. 5, 2005 | -

For about $12 each (+$5 credit card service fee), you can order actual
historical deeds for the property from the recorder's office, at (916)

library, recorder's office, assessor's office, historical society,
sacramento archives & museum collections center, office of historic
 preservation
table of ownership sourced and confirmed through recorder's office and
assessor's office.

I've put in the request today for the additional research with the
record's office. Will get back to you as soon as I have any word.

Marcella -

To quote what I wrote in a previous posting to you:

"I have only been able to track down the ownership record of the
property at this time. Despite looking, I have not been able to find
any interesting stories on the property as you have originally
requested. Are you interested in the ownership record for this
property? If so, you may lower the price of your question (if you

To which you replied:

"Yes Please conduct the possibly fruitless search for the contractor
name and I will tip the additional $25 to pay for this search. What do
you suggest the $200 fee be lowered to? thanks again" ... Yes the $200
fee remains the same plus the additional $25 for fee for record
request for contractor name.

I don't understand what the confusion is, and I'm sorry you're not
satisfied with the answer. I will post additional information from the
records office (if there is any) when I receive it.

I will add: over a half dozen resources were consulted -- including
historical archives offices, library, records offices, assessors, and
more -- in the research for this question, and I can authoritatively
say that there is nothing more I could possibly supply as an answer.
Any perceived "lack" of information supplied comes with the knowledge
that exhaustive footwork has been performed to confirm it.

Clarification of Answer by jbf777-ga on 12 Dec 2005 14:30 PST
The research results arrived on the original contractor.
Unfortunately, no information has been retained on who the builder
was.

As a courtesy, I will absorb the additional $25 research fee.

I may have misunderstood the premise; I thought that by offering 200
for the answer, that I would get a result that looked like 6-8 hours
of research and writing. Chain of title is available at any title
plant and would take 10 min

go to the land records office in the county where the property is
located. request to see the original plat. it will name the
construction company and the architect of the building. since it is
real old, the land records office may refer you to the county or state
archives for you to get a hold of the plat.
