Question ID: 595733
Occasionally after my rebooting my computer I can't obtain internet
access and the following message appears on the bottom address window:
"c:\windows\system32\shdodc.dll\dnserror.htm". Subsequently I have to
power cycle off my dsl wireless router, and then eventually I'm able
to connect to the internet. Any input? A generous gratuity will be
paid.

I tried your suggestion, and I couldn't connect to the aforementioned
IP address. For further clarification I have an Efficient Networks
SpeedStream 5861 Modem/Router to which I connect my Linksys 802.11b
Wireless Access Point (WAP11). I have to reboot the Speedstream
router to re-enable my internet connection, while the Linksys
typically does not have to be power cycled off.

Thanks,

Cadelac

Perhaps, this is the case of your computer not obtaining an IP address
from the DSL Modem when you restart it. Most DSL Modems are stupid
enough to not to pass on the new IP addredd to your computer after you
restart it. It only does so (force rather) when you restart your DSL
Modem.

Some question need to be answered ; -

1) Whoz your ISP?
2) Brand of DSL Modem

God knows, I was expecting this answer, lol

ISP: SBC
Router/Modem:Efficient Networks/SpeedStream

Now assuming that you would have got a Speedstream 5100B or 4100 DSL
Modem with SBC, this is what you have to do.

Navigate to DSL Modem's Console at http://192.168.0.1/ . Enter your
MOdem's Access Code etc (located beneath the modem) and then,
1) Click on 'Advance' from the left.
2) Click on 'Connection Properties'.
3) Scroll down the page and select the option that saysm "NO, use Private IP".
4) Reboot your DSL Modem.

This should resolve your problem. Try this settings and let me know
the results. I have one more setting under my sleeve, but, that is
necessary only when this one doesn't work

Cheers...

I had the same problem with my Speedstream 5200, I used sevral
rounters and had the same problem. I contacted the ISP and they told
me that it was my modem not their system. Since then I bought a
SPEEDSTREAM 6300 which has everything together, router, wireless and
modem. Its been 2 months now and no problems, it even seems like the
connection is faster :)
