I am preparing a indepth report for school on the North American truck industry.

I need a list of every single truck dealer in North American. I need
it as a text file sorted by STATE(prov), NAME, MANUFACTURER separated
by commas with a hard return.

EXAMPLE:

Georgia, Jerry Barker, Ford
Ontario, Al Paladini, GM
etc.

I do not need web links, just the massive text file. I am here if you
have questions or need clarification. It is a simple job for someone
who knows what they are doing.

Hi studentdave2006-ga!

A few questions:

a. Google Answers Researchers are quite wary of projects like these
that require us to find "All" elements in this case truck dealers. Can
you give us a ball park figure like 1000+ dealers?

b. If dealers have multiple locations, would that count as well
like... Dealer A has 10 locations. Does it mean that it counts as 10
entries?

c. When you say "text file sorted by STATE(prov), NAME, MANUFACTURER",
what if the dealer sells different brand of trucks? Will we include
all brands?

Thanks!

I found a database (it has to be manipulated of course) of truck
dealers. With STATE, DEALER COMPANY NAME, ADDRESS. It does not have
data for manufacturer. Is this going to be of interest to you?

Hmm... you got me. I have no clue, you're right, it might be way
huger than I thought.

Let's do this. Drop Canada right off the bat, so let's use every
American truck dealer.

Crunch that database into this format:

DEALER NAME, STATE, ADDRESS for me. I bet a lot of the dealers have
their manufacturer in the name, like Eric Cartman Ford, Southpark
Colorado, but some will say "motors" etc but that's ok.

Thanks,

I think the whole database is online at
http://www.truckpaper.com/dealers/list.asp?search=Truck

Hi again!

I may have a more comprehensive list here.

http://yellowpages.superpages.com/listings.jsp?C=truck+dealers&PS=15&OO=0&MC=1&F=1&CP=Automotive%5EDealers%5ETrucks%5E&paging=1&R=A&PI=551&PB=A

15,000+ Truck Dealers are said to be listed at Superpages in
Alphabetical order. However, would you welcome such a format for an
example dealer.

A & C Trucking CO Inc
4200 South Harding Street, Indianapolis, IN 46217

A & D Forklift
236 Longhorn Drive, Apopka, FL 32712

The carriage return and the strict comma separation will quite
sometime to accomplish so I am asking first if this format will be ok
with you?

Furthermore, is the sorting of the database in my link sufficient for your link?

Thanks for your patience.

Hi, I looked at my project, I need the file in a format that I can
import into a spreadsheet. So it has to have all the data as comma
delimited.

I know how to use comma delimited so NAME, ADDRESS, CITY, STATE, ZIP would work.

Does that make sense?

Hi!

It seems that the list I presented to you has too many data that is
not appropriate since it includes other services.

I can also use the link to the database that you provided.

http://www.truckpaper.com/dealers/list.asp?catid=&search=Truck&PG=2&guid=424B9E71DD9C452EBB4424897E199C82

But going to each and every link to get the full address for 1,800+ is
quite difficult. Would a data like this be ok in a comma delimited
format.

ALBUQUERQUE FREIGHTLINER,(800)535-0928,Albuquerque,New Mexico
Alden Trucks, LTD.,(716)684-7475,Alden,New York

Will this be ok?

Thanks!

Your example would work fine.

ALBUQUERQUE FREIGHTLINER,(800)535-0928,Albuquerque,New Mexico
Alden Trucks, LTD.,(716)684-7475,Alden,New York

Will this be ok?

That way I can import into excel....great stuff!

I am on it now but it seems it will take quite sometime to furnish
them in the format you need.

Another thing, is it ok to remove the dash "-" in the telephone
numbers? It is giving me some trouble. Plus will it be ok as well to
have a space before and after the commas. So the data will look like
this.

ALBUQUERQUE FREIGHTLINER , (800)5350928 , Albuquerque , New Mexico

Thank you.

Yes, say good-bye to the dashes....let's make it as simple as
possible, right? even the brackets around the area code is not
necessary, if that helps.

Hi! Thanks for being so patient with this one.

I took out some entries which have incomplete information so as not to
mess up your file. The number taken out is very minimal, only about
less than 5 to 10 entries.

Here is a link to the downloadable file.

I hope this would be of help to you.
