Question ID: 59612
I fairly recently purchased a drawing from a street trader in
Brighton, UK. It was a print of an intricate pencil-drawing of an
otter in water, and unfortunately while moving house recently the
drawing became damaged. I would dearly love to replace it, but ideally
without travelling back to Brighton (I live in Scotland). The artist's
name at the bottom of the drawing was Kevin Hayler.

Can anyone find me a way to contact the artist or in some other way
purchase another print of this picture, over the internet or by
telephone or even contacting someone in Brighton who can buy the
picture and post it to me!

Dear googoo_ga:

Thank you for your question. Currently, Kevin Hayler has two of his
prints on an online gallery at TheArtClub. You can see them here on
this page:

http://www.theartclub.co.uk/Newcomerspage.html

TheArtClub sells prints of all their artists. Although they do not
provide the contact information on their public website, your best bet
to get into contact with Kevin Hayler is to contact them directly for
his information:

There's also an editorial letter sent in by Kevin Hayler, here:
http://www.thisiseastbourne.co.uk/eastbourne/archive/2000/08/11/LETTERS10ZM.html

Apparently he got into a bit of trouble selling his paintings on the
streets. In the letter, he gives his location as "Chesswood Road,
Worthing," but no street number is given. I did try doing a directory
enquiry using that info, but turned up nothing.

I hope this helps!

Thanks blader, but I think this is not quite the answer I was after.
You say that theartclub.co.uk sells prints of works done by all their
artists: well this is true, to a degree, but it's specifically not
true of the artists in their "newcomers" section -- searching their
site for any way of buying Kevin Hayler's prints returns nothing at
all. What's more, neither of the two works of his listed there match
the description of the one I want to replace: that of an otter in
water.

However I've emailed theartclub.co.uk to see if they are able to put
me in touch with the artist. I'd still like to find some more certain
way to contact him though.

Dear googoo_ga:

Sorry for the inconvenience. A search for "Kevin Hayler" turned up
only eight hits, and this was my best lead. I will also send off an
email to them and I will let you know if anything turns up. Thanks!

Thank you blader. The Art Club have emailed me to say that they've
passed my query onto the artist. It took a wee bit of time (and an
intermediary) but I finally got exactly what I asked for:
communication with the person I wanted. Well worthwhile, thank you :)
