I am trying to identify the Latino/Hispanic percentage of the U.S.
population, annually, from 1979 to 1994.  The ideal source is the U.S.
Census.  The proportions should be pre-calculated or easily calculated
from the reported data.  This page is much too cumbersome:

This might be tougher than you suppose, because the concept of who is
or isn't "Hispanic" has changed quite a bit over time.

The closest I've come thus far is Figure 1 in this report from Census:

It provides counts for Hispanics (e.g. 14.6 million in 1980) that
cover the time range you asked about.
