because there are few hard facts to be found online, without
subscribing to a service! Let me shed a bit of light on what I have
found, which is not a great deal, in hopes that this will provide you
with the correct answer.
From Southern California Edison, this site gives several colorful
charts regarding bulb sales, for the US and California specifically.
For the year 2000, this site states that total unit bulb sales topped
2.1 billion, with 75% of these being incandescent bulbs, and
fluorescent bulbs taking 5% of the market. (This is in form of an
