I am trying to find 5 moderately extensive and well written recent
(must be within the last 12 mos) newspaper articles or other published
public information (law journals, magazines) that document the
arrest/detainment and/or jailing of gay men in Mexico by Mexican
police without cause (other than the fact that they are gay). Articles
can be in English or Spanish, but must be recent.

I will need copies of these actual articles (showing publication name,
date, and in a "publication type" format faxed to me - links to
websites or printouts from websites are not acceptable.

There's a bit of a problem with your last request.

Google Answers Researchers can only post information here, in these
text boxes. There is no direct communication (such as faxes) between
customers and researchers.

In addition, we can't post full articles, since they are copyrighted.
Best we can do is link to online content, or offer citations and a few
excerpts from non-internet content.

For instance, here are two of the articles I've found that might be relevant:

SAN FRANCISCO / Abused gay Mexican earns asylum in U.S.
The San Francisco Chronicle, 13 August 2005

--An AIDS-afflicted gay man from Mexico, who fled to San Francisco
after a local policeman forced him into sexual acts under threat of
being outed or killed, is eligible for political asylum, a federal
appeals court ruled Friday.

Circuit will ask: How gay do you have to be?
The Recorder, 27 October 2004

--Growing up gay in Mexico, Jorge Soto Vega was ridiculed by his
family and beaten by police.

Let me know what you think the best way to proceed would be.

Hi-

Since according to Google's rules, faxes of the articles cannot be
sent to me, I need sufficient information (i.e. website links or
citations)
to enable me to go to the publications themselves and obtain the information.

jmgsf-ga,

I've been looking, but I haven't found very much on the specific topic
of police in Mexico arresting or harassing gay men.

But there is a good deal of fairly recent literature on the broader
topics of both discrimination and a growing tolerance in Mexico.
Here's a sampling of what I've come across, mostly from the past year:

MEXICO: ANTI-HOMOPHOBIA DRIVE UNDER FIRE FROM CONSERVATIVES
IPS-Inter Press Service

MEXICO: PRIDE PARADE HIGHLIGHTS BIAS COMPLAINTS
IPS-Inter Press Service

GAY MEXICAN GRANTED ASYLUM IN US OVER RISK OF PERSECUTION BACK HOME
The Independent

Protesters demand ban on adoptions of Mexican children by gay couples
El Universal (Mexico),

In Mexico, government-sponsored ad campaign to promote gay rights draws debate
The Associated Press

AIDS among men throws Mexico for a loop
UPI

Mexican government survey shows high level of discrimination
El Universal

Out and proud; Gays in Mexico
The Economist

I'd be glad to post the full list of articles as an answer to your
question. And while I can't post the articles themselves, I can
certainly post a few excerpts from them to give you the gist of each
article.

Would that meet your needs as an answer to your question? Let me know.

Hi-

Sorry it has taken me a few days to get back to this.

It seems like the following articles you have cited would be of use to me:

GAY MEXICAN GRANTED ASYLUM IN US OVER RISK OF PERSECUTION BACK HOME
The Independent

Mexican government survey shows high level of discrimination
El Universal

Could you come up with some more like the ones above? I'm especially
interested in articles showing police mistreatment of gay men or
imprisonment without cause.

Thanks,
John
