I am looking for a data provider that can provide me information on
the second home and second home condominium market in the following
metropolitan areas:

1. Atlanta
2. Greater Boston
3. Chicago
4. Dallas/Fort Worth
5. Houston
6. Las Vegas
7. Los Angeles
8. Miami/Fort LauderdaleThe northern New Jersey MSAs
9. New York, NY
10. Oakland/East San Francisco Bay
11. Orange County
12. Phoenix
13. Riverside-San Bernadino
14. San Diego
15. San FranciscoVentura County, CA
16. San Jose/Silicon Valley
17. Seattle
18. Greater Washington, DC

I'm realistic here and realize that it's likely I won't be able to get
a single provider who can service me nationwide, although that would
be ideal (and worth a $100 tip!). Accordingly, any answer that
answers the question for 6 or more cities, so long as at least three
of those metropolitan areas are outside of California, qualifies as a
complete answer. Also, any answer that answers the question with
multiple providers that combined cover at least 6 markets qualifies as
a complet answer.

Since I realize the complexity of this question, in addition to the
$100 tip for answering it for all 18 markets, I'll give a $75 tip to
anyone who can provide me with a supplier (or supplier set) that can
provide assistance in a dozen (12) or more markets. and a $50 tip to
anyone who can assist in 9 or more.

By "second home," I mean a home that is not the primary residence of
the owner of record. This would include both second homes used as
vacation/weekend homes and homes bought and used as investment
properties.

Said provider ought to be able to provide me with the following:

1. An estimate (or better still, a count) of second homes and second
home condos in each of the above markets, ideally, but not
necessarily, broken out between single family homes, duplexes and
condos.

2. Lists, including address, unit number (where applicable), city,
state and ZIP for a large subset of these second homes and condos,
along with information that would allow me to find and contact the
owners of said buildings.

Please contact me for further clarification if necessary!

I'd be curious as to what a researcher would come up with because
there's no reporting requirement (primary residence vs investor/second
home) when purchasing a property. A quick search indicates that my
hunch may be right: the second home info referenced in the article is
based entirely on surveys. See
http://realtytimes.com/rtcpages/20050223_secondhomes.htm .

A bit more: one of the articles referenced in the URL points to census
data as the source of info. All that's left to do is extract it and
report on it ;-)

Actually, I've found at least one vendor who thinks they can assist;
there are some backwards ways of deducing all this. For example, if a
property's tax bills are sent to a different address than the
property...

Just not sure if this vendor will sell me data.

That would be interesting data - I'm wondering what you would like to do with it.
