I am providing a link to a 23 slide presentation of Mr.Bob Huges of
School of information management, University of Brighton, who makes a
comparison to PRINCE2 AND BS6079 in slide 7 and 9.

Though Prince2 states that it gives more controlling power to those
who manage ? basically people who are in the cabins ? and agile for
making deviation etc, both are the same and as you stated you can
morph them into one and use without compromising their efficacy.

Both are promoted by vendors as the best in the business.

PRINCE2 ? details
This paper provides an overview of the PRINCE2? Project Management
methodology. PRINCE® (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a
structured method for effective management of any size or type of
project. It is the standard method for use in UK Government
Departments and is used increasingly in the private sector, NHS and
Local Government. An increasing number of overseas Governments and
multi-national companies have adopted the method, or integrated it
within their existing project management approaches.

BS6079
This is the British Quality Standard for Project Management. It is
part of the ISO9004 EEC quality standards and its central document is
the Strategic Project Plan.

The EEC recognised the need for Project Management and in 1995 decided
to standardise the quality of this skill across Europe. This was to
increase the international free movement of highly qualified Project
Managers to areas of Europe where they were needed most.

Most of the large technical companies in Europe have assisted in the
compilation of the Strategic Project Plan. In the UK the Engineering
Council, BP, Shell, ICI, BT, Tarmac, the Government and the
Association for Project Management have been among those central to
its production.
