I need a comprehensive list of the different styles or schools of
painting. It should include sub-categories as far as possible if the
sub-category is recognised as a valid separate style (eg Australian
Aboriginal Art and Modern Australian Aboriginal Art).

The list should be in text format, alphabetical order, one style per
line and capitalized. For example...

Abstract Art
Baroque Art
Cubism

...etc.

Ideally, I'm looking for a list of 500+ items. I'm not sure if this
is feasible. If not, please provide the most comprehensive list that
makes sense.

Thanks!

triviafan-ga,

WHEW! I haven't seen any lists that really delve as deeply and as
comprehensively as you're looking for: Aboriginal...Yes! NorthWest
Australian Modern Aboriginal Deco...No!

I've put together a list of about 200 styles. Here are the first 50
or so. Let me know if this looks promising, and if so, I'm happy to
post the full list as an answer to your question.

Cheers,

pafalafa-ga

Hi Pafalafa,

Appreciate this is a somewhat obscure request and I'm no art expert so
wasn't really sure how many categories there would be.

What you've come up with fits what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

search strategy -- Google searches on combinations of different art
movements and styles turned up several existing lists, which I then
extracted and combined into a master list.
