I attended a Catholic school in southern Oregon in the late sixties.
Trying to remember the name or publisher of the readers we used in 2nd
or 3rd grade (around 1969). They were all illustrated with idyllic
scenenes of farm life. All the drawings, character and "plots" were
based on country life, farmers etc. I remember we were reading
"Curious George" books at the same time. Sorry I don't have any more
information.

Hi bluechristmas,

Here is a possibility:

Looking Forward: Easy Growth in Reading
"Delightful color and B&W illustrations throughout the book to
highlight the wonderful stories. Each chapter is set up with a section
called "Readiness" which tells what the chapter is going to be about,
followed by the main story, followed by "Skills" which features study
guides and lessons to test comprehension and other skills, followed by
a section of "Poems" on the same subject. Chapters titled Man's Best
Friend, Wild Life, Living on a Farm, Man-Made Miracles and more. Word
list and glossary at back of the book. Cover is red cloth with bumping
on corners and small writing on top corner of front cover."

I don't think any those are it. I can still remember the
illustrations which had very clean lines...they didn't look like
someone had sketched them. The illustration were also very colorfull
with mainly primary colors. But your examples made me realize that it
could have been published much earlier than '69. Thanks for checking.
