For some reason I can no longer open pps attachments in my Outlook Express e-mails. I know this is used by a power point program, which I never use except for opening attachments. But even when I went into settings, control panel and folder options and reset it to power point, it only takes me to a page like Word and asks if I want to create a power point presentation. What's going on here? But, better yet, can you please help me find a solution to this problem? |

You said you only use powerpoint for opening attachments. Have you tried saving the PPS file to the desktop, and then double clicking it? How about saving it to the desktop, opening powerpoint, and then doing file->open and choosing the file? Trying these may give some insight into whether Outlook Express is having a problem, Windows is having a problem, or powerpoint is having a problem. |

As u said u changed the file type this issue would have been solved by then if the file extension had changed i would like to know a simple thing that it is only the power point presentation that is not opening or other attachments as well. If so i request u to open outlook express go to tools options under options security uncheck Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me and DO not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus Outlook Express > Tools > Options > Security Uncheck Warn me when other applications try to send mail as me DO not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus This usually happens when u update outlook express or as u have stated before u have changed the file type in folder options i would like u to check the settings Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types Select pps the details Should be as Opens with Microsoft Office Power Point & if u Click Advanced u get a dialog box as EDIT File Type under which their is open select it and click edit u would get a editing Action Type dialog box check the path in Application used to perform action it should be pointing to the installed "POWERPNT.EXE" with a string /s "%1" ie: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\POWERPNT.EXE" /s "%1" please check u Microsoft Office installed path and follow and click ok and check the option conform open after download or u could save the PPS file to the desktop, and then double clicking it to open or opening PowerPoint, and then File > Open > Browse the file Try these and let me know |

It's unlikely to be the Outlook Express Security setting because they are able to open the attachment, it just opens in the wrong program. |

Try downloading this viewer to open PPS attachments: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7C404E8E-5513-46C4-AA4F-058A84A37DF1&displaylang=EN |

Ok thanks feldersoft-ga for reminding me as i was not aware of that. maryklo-ga i could sujusset u on more thing After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2, when you open a .PPS file that came as a mail attachment in Outlook Express, you may see the Open / Cancel dialog box. When you select Open, the following error may be displayed: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel Whereas the same file opens fine when saved to disk, and then viewed. This happens if the Open verb is missing for that ProgID. (PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11 is the ProgID, if you have the PowerPoint Viewer 2003 installed ) Ff this is the problem u r facing To fix the problem manually Note: The following solution applies if you have PowerPoint Viewer 2003 installed. To resolve the problem, use any of these methods: Method 1: Rename the Show verb to Open * Start Regedit.exe and navigate to: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11\shell] There will be two sub-keys by default (namely Show and Print) * Select the sub-key named Show, and rename it to Open * Quit Regedit.exe Method 2: Create a new action named Open * Start Regedit.exe and navigate to: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPointViewer.SlideShow.11\shell] * Create a new key named Open * Under Open, create a sub-key named Command * Select Command, and in the right-pane, double-click (default) * Assign the following value-data for (default) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\PowerPoint Viewer\pptview.exe "%1" * Quit Regedit Hope this solves the problem |

Could you not provide that registry entry in a reg file ready for import? I suspect that the wrong parameters are being passed to the executable also. However the fact that word is opening suggests it may even be pointing to the wrong executable, it was my understanding they all used seperate executables. |

you can provide an registry entry in a reg file ready for import but it is better to navigate to the string and specify the details as u could miss some things in typing |

You don't have to type it. Just find the key, and export it to a file. |
