I use a Treo 650 Phone/PDA at work, and carry it with me during the
day as I move around our building. If I am wearing an outfit that has
pockets, I can easily slip it into a pocket to carry around. If,
however, I am wearing an outfit without pockets, such as a dress or
skirt/blouse, I end up juggling it with my papers, legal pad, books,
etc. and more often than not I end up dropping it, or inadvertently
leaving it somewhere.
I have researched online for cases, lanyards, skins, etc. that will
allow me to carry the Treo with me at work without having to actually
hold it in my hand. I have two cases - a Rhinoskin metal case
(illustration here - http://www.styluscentral.com/alhacafortr6.html),
and a leather top-flap case (illustration here -
http://store.treocentral.com/content/accessories/4-22--135.htm). Both
have belt clip options, but I don't wear a belt, so belt clips don't
work either.
What I am envisioning is a case on a rather long lanyard of some sort,
that I can wear around my neck, that will keep my phone with me
without the need for holding it. I did find the Bun-J lanyards: see,
for example, http://mytreo.net/archives/2005/07/bunj_lanyard_review_for_the_treo_600_and_treo_650.php
, and I think they might work, but I have had trouble finding a
source for the one version I think would be dressy enough to wear to
work (the black velvet).
I have also thought about trying to fashion a lanyard-case combination
using the soft case I already own, and some sort of cord, chain, or
other material for the lanyard portion. I can't find a good way to
fasten a makeshift lanyard to the existing cases, though.
Finally, I even thought about a pouch on a neckstrap, like the iPod
holders that are coming out. The ones I've seen, though, look too
casual and "teenage" to use for a professional outfit.
As a last resort, I am throwing the question out to the collective
wisdom of the Google Researchers (one of whom is my husband,
"weisstho") - I would love any creative ideas for a
professional-looking method of carrying a Treo 650 around the office
without needing my hands, and without needing a belt or pocket.
Thanks!
