Is GadgetCity.com legit?

I've got plenty of friends who've used one of those free iPod sites
and received their iPods. However, those all required referrals.
GadgetCity.com claims to offer "free" iPods, iBooks, and the like
without referrals - you just need to sign *yourself* up for a bunch of
offers. I'd like to know if GadgetCity.com will really come through on
their offer, or whether it's just a complex marketing hoax.

Not an answer, only a comment:

Though I have found nothing that proves that GadgetCity might be a
scam, I recommend to be very cautions when dealing with them. I am
always suspicious when a company does not provide full contact
information. In this case, it's only a PO box address. I checked the
ownership record of the domain name, and this is what I got:

EAB Interactive Marketing
650 Castro Street Ste 120-201
Mountain View, California 94041
United States

Created on: 03-Feb-98
Expires on: 02-Feb-06
Last Updated on: 10-Oct-05

Administrative Contact:
Manager, Tech Ops emarmite@gmail.com

That's all. No telephone number, no fax, no names of individuals. A
company named "EAB Interactive Marketing" is neither registered in the
state of California, nor does it show up when searching for it on
Google. And I am not surprised to find out that searching for
"GadgetCity.com" leads to only 7 related results, none of them telling
us anything about this company and the freebies offers. Although the
domain has been registered already in 1998, it seems that the website
with the free products appeared only very recently.

All that is very suspicious. I don't know what exactly they have in
mind, but I doubt that it is kosher.

Regards,
Scriptor

I'd think that anyone that can get you a PS3 before they are even in
existence must be legit!! :)

Hey there, I can vouch for GadgetCity.com since I have a friend that
received a free Razr from them and the Apple iBook I signed up just
under 4 months ago was just delivered, a lot sooner than I expected.

Here's the deal with GadgetCity.com. They offer free products in
exchange for signing up for their partner's promotional offers. Unlike
other sites in which you have to refer and convince others to sign up
(which is a lot harder than it sounds), you can sign up for all of the
offers yourself.

Apparently GadgetCity is able to give away these products because they
receive nice referral fees when they send leads to their partners.
Probably worth it for the partners (like Blockbuster and BMG) to
receive guaranteed leads this way, than to spend thousands on
billboards or other advertisements that may not result in any new
members. The cost of the product is probably just deducted from those
referral fees, so GadgetCity can provide the product for free.

I thought the whole process was fairly easy and the product was
delivered in the time that was stated, so I'm pretty happy with my
experience with GadgetCity. I felt like I got a free iBook just for
being patient and willing to try, so I'd definitely recommend trying
it out.

These sites are legit. Check out the forums at www.scam.com. People
there give inks to sites that they have actually used to get products
and gift cards for low sums of money. they also give instructions on
how to do it. you can ask them questions and they will advise.

Check out www.scam.com/search.php?searchid=415857 and your question
should be answered.

I joined a bookclub to get a free Moto Razr cell phone. I couldn't get
an account created. However after e-mailing thier help department, I
recieved a response within a day or two. The tried to tell me that I
only joined one offer and that I had to do three more to get the free
phone. The offer for the Razr said only one offer need be completed to
get it. I replied to the e-mail that the offer said only one. A few
days later they sent an e-mail with a link to the offer again saying I
had to complete three more offers. I looked thru the link and it was
incomplete, ie. the part that said how many offers had to be completed
was missing. I e-mailed them back telling them as much and a few days
later I got my offer completed and approved certificate. Then you have
to print that and fill out a form W-9 from the IRS, then send both by
snail mail to the PO Box. This part, (W-9), seemed hoakey to me and
really made me leery. With research I found it's required to recieve
gifts. Basically a W-9 proves you are a resident of the U.S.A. and a
taxpayer. It's been a month since I sent the W-9 and certificate. My
account has not been updated yet but it says may take 6 yo 8 weeks. So
far it seems to be legit. You just have to check up on things and be
patient. I'll keep you informed on the results.

I jumped through all the hoops these guys asked for a while back -
tried a product, got some bids on a building project I was working on,
received contact about a home alarm system that looked interesting to
me, etc. Never received my "free gift" ? figured they were crooked.
Tonight, got flashed with a "your the millionth" whatever, on a web
site I trust, so I thought, well, let's see. So I clicked the "click
here to receive your free laptop" - started through the hoops, and
recognized I was in the clutches of these creeps again. I worked
through the offers trying to find some contact info. Found a phone
number 801-316-0555 supposedly available from 9-5 weekdays - we'll
see. Anyway, in my earlier experience with these guys ? I tried, and
decided to cancel one of the offers I opted for, and that company kept
billing me - I had to dispute the issue through my credit card company
to free myself up from that one - it was a while back and I can't
remember the name of the company off hand. Anyway, my plan is to
contact these characters and inquire of my attorney whether anything
here is actionable - these guys are pretty slick and usually cover
themselves cleverly, but, it really ticks me off that they can use
such deceitful machinations to prey upon people.Perhaps I can stir
things up a bit over there and chase them back into the holes where
came from. Hope this helps someone.
