I was assuming you meant a hand gun, but you might want to clarify if
you mean a shotgun, rifle, what calibre etc...

The particular gun I am wondering about would be a Smith and Wesson .44 mag Revolver

Thank you for your responses. The reason for my question is this: I
heard a rumor about someone who was shooting a hand gun and they held
the barrel when they shot. Apparently the barrel instantly heated up
and branded His hand. This person has Smith and wesson permently
scared on their hand. I was having a debate with a fellow co-worker
today about it and thought I would throw the quetion you google and
see what you guys thought. Thanks for your help. Maybe we will have
to test it out See what happens. LOL

Based on nothing but personal experience, I would say no.

I would say no as well, but it might depend on if it were a revolver
or semi automatic.

I too would guess not unless the barrel was ported and you were unwise
enough to hold you hand over the ports. I use a S&W Magnum 500 and I
think that the gasses and flames from the ports would do more than
burn you. Best advice, keep your hands where they belong
