Corporate Citizenship
We define corporate citizenship as an overall commitment to society
which goes beyond business concerns. Henkel recognizes its social
responsibility and incorporates fundamental social principles in its
corporate policy to reflect this social awareness. Henkel is also
committed to sustainable development, which accords the same
significance to economic and social considerations as it does to
ecological aspects. We practice this sustainability through corporate
citizenship.
Corporate Volunteering
An integral component of our corporate citizenship is that of
corporate volunteering. Characteristic of corporate volunteering at
Henkel is that all of the projects we promote are organized and
carried out by our employees and pensioners, some of whom have been
doing this volunteer work for many years. This support is managed
under our MIT Initiative.
Support for social projects
The tradition of social commitment at Henkel reaches back more than
one hundred years and is firmly anchored in our corporate culture. In
addition to the MIT Initiative (corporate volunteering), we support
our employees? children?s projects all over the world every year,
initiate assistance campaigns following floods or earthquakes, and,
especially, support social institutions and initiatives in the
vicinity of our sites.
Support for environmental projects
Henkel has been supporting projects promoting environmental protection
for decades. These include scientific experiments in sewage treatment
plants, as well as specific projects where Henkel is able to apply its
core competencies.
Support for schools and young people
Assistance for projects at schools have been part of the Henkel?s
Corporate Citizenship Program for decades. The projects center around
Company locations. Support is provided for elementary and middle
schools, high schools, and vocational programs, as well as the ?Fritz
Henkel School,? a junior high school in Düsseldorf which we sponsor.
The focus is on professional consultation leading to eco audits at
these schools.
Support for education and science
Educational institutions have been supported for years, especially in
the vicinity of the Henkel Group sites. In addition to two foundations
assisting young scientists at the Heinrich Heine University in
Düsseldorf, Henkel supports numerous theses annually in various
sectors and offers help to promising students.
Support for cultural projects
Henkel limits its support of cultural events and institutions to
Henkel Group locations. Measures associated with the Düsseldorf
location include contributions for the restoration of the east wing of
Benrath Castle in the southern part of Düsseldorf, as well as
sponsorship for the premiere of an opera musical as part of the
Düsseldorf Altstadtherbst festival at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
Support for sports
At Henkel, support for sports is a tradition. On the one hand, the
interest of employees in sports at the various Company locations in
Germany and abroad are encouraged. On the other hand, the Company
supports sports such as soccer, tennis, ice hockey and horse races.
All of these involvements correspond to the philosophy of corporate
citizenship. |
