Question ID: 599188
I have a problem with the fitted sheet on my bed. I have a 6 month old
king size bed made by Sealy. Ever since I got this bed, I have noticed
that the fitted sheet on my bed is developing rough spots. It appears,
under close examination, to be tiny runs or snags in the fabric. I
have gone through four different sets of linens from 300 thread count
to 1200 thread count. I have done a systematic analysis trying to rule
exclude specific factors (ex: mixing and matching duvet covers and
different sheet brands, wearing different things to bed, etc?), I have
had the sheets professionally cleaned at two different places
(laundered and dry cleaned) and also tried washing them at home (from
straight out of the box). I have replaced the mattress pad and the
pillow cases. I have rotated the bed.

Has anyone ever experienced something similar? Normally I would just
assume it was something I was doing however I never had this problem
with my previous bed which was of the same dimension and using the
same sheets. The snags appear to be coming away from the bed so I am
doubtful that it is the bed itself. Additionally, they are not in any
one specific location (other than trending towards the center of the
sheet and away from the sides).

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Additionally, I have tracked personal habits (shaving, nail clipping,
etc...) and there seems to be no correlation. I tried changing the
sheets in intervals of 4 days. Problems seem to start occuring after 8
days.

Also, no damage to my pillow cases.

A couple of thoughts:

Have you checked the soles of your feet to make sure they are smooth
and not rough and scaly? I am a 'barefooter' much of the summer and
have this problem from time to time. Also have you changed the
lotions you may use on your body, particularly your legs and feet? Do
you put them on just prior to going to bed? You might want to switch
brands and pay attention to the ingredients.

Also, do you have long fingernails? Just like some people clench
their jaw while sleeping, you may clench your hands and if your
fingernails are long this might cause the problem.
