There are a lot of credit card companies that protect you to a degree,
but not absolutely. It would depend on exactly what happened and how
fast you reported it.

Lots of credit card companies have websites you can log onto to review
the activity on your card or to pay your bill online. Any reputable
card company would have a secure website. They are protected, I
believe, by 128 bit encryption. I wouldn't want to contact one by
email though. email is not very secure.
