What is the best mini-DV video camera that can shoot in widescreen for
under $700?  I would like to have an answer by tomorrow if possible.

I bought a Sony DCR-HC42 this summer and it does a very good job.  I
recommend MiniDV over DVD, because you can record more video on them. 
The camera will let you switch from 4:3 to 16:9 at the switch of a
button and the lcd display is a 16:9 viewer.  If you are looking for
High Def details though its going to cost about 2 grand for the extra
pixels.
